Seedless dried Barberries, one of the jewels of Persian cuisine, are red, mature fruits of a shrub of which many species grow wild throughout the temperate regions of Iran. With a soft, firm, non-sticky texture and a sweet-sour taste, Dried Barberries are a great snack and incredibly rich in vitamin C. The European barberry has been revered and used for its medicinal properties and health benefits.
Barberries are processed and offered in two types:
- Puffy Type: Shade dried – New crop available from March
- Anari Type: Sun-dried – New crop available from November

Where to use it
In Iranian culture, barberries incorporate into certain wedding dishes as a symbol; the sourness of the small, red berries, it is said, representing the occasional sourness of life. Stir through couscous, use homemade chutney or tomato sauce, even add to a homemade tea.
